John Bruno Jr.

John Bruno Jr. was a special young man who gave wonderful memories to the people who were fortunate enough to have known him. John was an athlete and a scholar. He received numerous recognitions for his achievements as a wide receiver at Upper St. Clair High School in Pittsburgh, Pa. and as a punter for the Penn State Nittany Lions. The Foreman Foundation was created in John’s memory and to one day free the world of this terrible disease.


1964
John was born in Jeannette, Pa. He grew up in Upper St. Clair, a suburb of Pittsburgh, Pa. John earned letters in varsity baseball, basketball and football. He was recognized as an All-Western Conference Wide Receiver in 1980 and 1981, and an All-WPIAL District Wide Receiver in 1981.

1982
John enrolled at Penn State University and became a walk-on member for Penn State’s first National Championship football team.

1984
John earned a scholarship, as well as the starting punter position in the 1984-1986 seasons. He was honored as the All-East Punter in 1985 and 1986. John also received an All-American Honorable Mention in 1986.

1987
His punting performance in the 1987 Fiesta Bowl helped secure the Nittany Lions’ second National Championship with a victory over the University of Miami. This was considered one of the finest kicking performances ever in a national championship game.

1988

1991

1992
John died on April 13, 1992 from complications caused by melanoma.
