Students Awarded 2010 Study Abroad Scholarship

Each year Foreman Architects Engineers awards two $1000 scholarships to eligible students enrolled in the third year of Penn State's five-year Bachelor of Architecture program. The scholarship is to be applied to tuition for the winners' fourth year study abroad semester.

This years winners were Nathaniel Rice and Michael Elsman for their excelent design solutions for the Relocation of the Barnes Foundation in Phillidelphia, PA. Both students' projects represented exceptional solutions, beautiful presentations, strong concepts, and a high level of detail.





Studying abroad in Rome may be a student's life changing moment in their path to becoming an architect. Students returning from Italy approach architecture and design with newly acquired global perspectives and international attitudes. Experiences abroad build memories and friendships that will last a lifetime.

Selection Process
The third year faculty will select a minimum of two projects from each section to be displayed for final review and selection by a representative from Foreman Architects Engineers. The winning projects will be selected based on the quality and thoroughness of the solution. The final selection is closed format. Finalists are encouraged to display study sketches, models, and any relevant semester work with the project.

Eligible students must:
- be third year status in the Penn State Bachelor
   of Architecture program
- meet university and departmental minimum GPA
   requirements
- be participating in the Sede di Roma study    abroad semester
- display exceptional design and graphic aptitude
   throughout the third year
- demonstrate enthusiasm and perception in
   critiques and group discussion
- have a strong studio work-ethic
